The core team is made of researchers and admin staff based at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, Sussex Health Outcomes Research & Education in Cancer (SHORE-C) and University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
Sumita Verma is Professor of Hepatology at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, and an Honorary Consultant/Academic Lead of Hepatology at Brighton and University Hospitals Sussex. Professor Verma obtained her medical degree from the University of Delhi India, before training as a Gastroenterologist/ Hepatologist in Yorkshire, UK. Her research interests include autoimmune hepatitis; developing and evaluating innovative community models of care for vulnerable adults with liver disease; and innovative interventions for refractory ascites due to advanced cirrhosis.
Yazan Haddadin is a gastroenterology and hepatology registrar currently out of programme. He a senior clinical research fellow working on REDUCe2, completing a PhD.
Alison worked for 2 major pharmaceutical companies as a CRA before joining the University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust where she worked as a Data Officer Team Leader. Various roles lead her to become the Finance and Contracts Manager before coming full cycle to become the Clinical Trial Manager of this important study.
Stephen is lead statistician at the Brighton and Sussex Clinical Trials Unit and co-investigator on REDUCe2. He has worked in clinical trials since 2008, mainly pragmatic trials of complex interventions.
Vasso is a Research Fellow in Medical Statistics at BSMS, working at the REDUCe2 trial, the Global Health Research Unit for Neglected Tropical Diseases and the 5S Foundation.
Debbie has worked in clinical research for over 20 years. Her role in this study is the design and creation of the database and managing the data.
One of the BSCTU Data Managers responsible for ensuring high quality data capture and completeness of the REDUCEe2 clinical database, as well as managing access to the system and providing support to data entry users at the research sites.
Debbie supports researchers with project management and advice across the clinical project lifecycle. She has a Master’s in Research Methods in Psychology and has over 10 years’ research and clinical experience in various healthcare and community settings. She worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, managing the delivery of NIHR portfolio mental health studies.
Sam supports the JCRO team with its administrative activities and supports the Research Managers with grant submissions, study set-up and active studies. She maintains the project tracker, communications and office systems. Sam has over 20 years’ experience including with the NIHR Clinical Research Network.
As the Research & Contracts Manager for Research and Innovation here at the Royal Sussex County Hospital Brighton, Lorraine's role can be very varied. She has been in research for over 13 years and took on this role over a year ago. For REDUCe2, the Trust holds the grant money and it is her job to make sure that it is distributed correctly and accounted for.
Helena is a psychologist and interested in understanding the effects of treatments on health and quality of life. She is involved in the qualitative data collection and communication training.
Rachel has experience studying quality of life and communication training for healthcare professionals. Alongside Helena Harder, she manages quality of life data collection in REDUCe2, along with study interviews and communication training.
Data manager at SHORE-C, responsible for capturing the online quality of life data of patients and care givers and keeping it confidential and secure.
As one of the SHORE-C data managers for the study, Ruth is responsible for looking after the quality of life data of patients and care givers.
